Fishing Report 9-17-09
Today's Date is:

Rick with a long wickiup brown trout... Wickiup remains good on the brown fishing. It is difficult to launch now that the main ramps are closed but beach launching is possible, but tenuous, as the water levels continue to drop. With dreamy weather of late, I couldn't resist and headed up by myself this past Thursday for an evening out. I got a call from Eric Cole, while out on the water, that he was on his way up after work.

It was as flat as glass, as I worked my way to one of my favorite areas. It has been producing some nice browns of 3-7 Lb. on most outings the last few trips. I was the only boat out there when I first got on the water. As I coming across a point that often produces, bingo, I was hot onto a nice 4 LB. hen. Eric wasn't out yet so I couldn't get a photo. I haven't taken the time to purchase a camera holding devise for self portraits so I either enlist the help of other anglers, or just release them.

It was a warm, calm evening with a slight wind chop......just what the DR. ordered! There are a lot of kokanee from fry to some larger fish and when you can find some concentrations, you can usually find some nice browns mingled in. I got another call from Eric, he had arrived as was launching. A little while later his boat appeared and we got after them. Right after he got out, I had a good grab and this was a good fish. The bigger buck managed to get the line out of the release on the rigger and that is what I love to see. I leaned into him and could feel that he had some weight. He was long and lean and when I weighed him in my net, he bounced around over 11 LB. That nets out to over 7 LB. after subtracting the net. He was truly lit up in his fall costume. They are really gorgeous this time of year.

About 15 minutes later, I was into another brown......this one going between 4-5 LB. I had one more hen around 4 LB. after a couple of missed strikes and that was it as the light got low. It was a good outing with (4) browns from around 4-7 LB.+

Tight Lines,

Rick
