Rick with his monster 19 lb. 6oz. Wickiup brown. The fish of a "lifetime."

In my quest to get into the Brownbaggers Club, which started over 30 years ago, my first brown over 10 LB. was this 33 in. massive female caught from Wickiup right before dark on an Excalibur Minnow in the summer of 1999. How lucky can you get!? I have been blessed to catch a few others over 10 LB. along the way and more importantly, meet and befriend some of the best west coast brown trout anglers around. It has been a great journey.

My plans this week were to hit Crescent Lake for browns and lakers and I was looking forward to the whole week I had arranged and even had a few friends scheduled to join me. Unfortunately, my trailer had a few electrical issues when I got up there on Mon. that couldn’t be resolved while I was there. Luckily, I was able to fix them all with the help of a friend and his son later that week. That changed my week though. I did get up to East Lake to fish with Eric Cole who was camping there for the week. We fished Fri. morning and caught 4 browns to around 3.5 LB. before it slowed up. I decided to hit Wickiup before heading home and hit one nice 4 LB. brown.

On another note, I got the chance to do a recent radio spot with Lance Fisher who was over here on vacation a few weeks back. We actually met at the KBND studio on a Sat. morning to do a full, live Northwest Outdoor Show.

Tight Lines,
Rick
