East/Wickiup Trip Early August, 2007
Today's Date is:
Ted Neal's fist brown over 10 LB. This gourgeous hookjaw was almost 11 LB. His first trip to East Lake. Congrats Ted!

My partner Mark was heading up for a family vacation and a much anticipated fishing junket with me. He laments that he doesn't get to fish near as much as he would like. It was my job to try and turn him on to the best fishing we have going at this time of year here in OR. We did get lucky.

We were also going to get into a little prototype testing of some of the new A/C lure's to boot. Allan Cole will be introducing his new line of baits this fall. I was impressed with the quality of them!

Nice fatty 8.5 LB. East Lake hen let us get her picture. As we got out on East that first morning, I looked up to see some familiar faces. Turned out that Ted Neal and Phil Brejle had decided to chase some browns here in OR. They live in the Sacramento area and needed a summer trout trip, so they headed our way. I was used to seeing them at Pend Oreille the past few years as we all pursued the giant gerrard rainbows that surface in the fall. It was good to see them. They are both good fisherman and "class act" guys. We all decided to meet for lunch back at the resort.

Mark and I were both catching browns through the morning and then my rod was hit hard by a nicer brown. She turned out to be this nice fat girl that was an easy 8.5 LB. Check out a short video clip of the fish here. We probably landed at least 15 brown by the time we headed in. I thought we probably had the nicest brown of the Mark with a pretty lil Wick fish...morning between the two groups. I was wrong. As we approached the dock, Ted and Phil were at the top of the ramp waiting for us. Those "cat that ate the canary" grins turned to glee as they started rambling about the killer hookjaw that Ted had popped around 11:00 that morning. We were high fiving all the way to the restaurant.

As we wolfed down burgers, we exchanged digital photos of the best browns that morning. Mark's new Pentax digital even got some underwater footage of my release of the 8 LB.+ hen. Ted's 27", 11 LB. hookjaw male brown was one of the best looking browns I had seen this year. It was also the biggest brown out of East so far this year. They followed up with a 6 LB. fish right after that. What a morning!

Ted Neal's fist brown over 10 LB. This gourgeous hookjaw was almost 11 LB. His first trip to East Lake. CongTed Neal's big hook brown went 9 LB. 6 oz. and was the second big one that day. His first fish went 11 LB. He almost became a brownbagger in one day! Talk about lucky!Mark and I wanted to sample the Wick while he was up. That evening we got a couple of browns to 5 LB. and then things tapered off. Next morning found us back at East. When we talked with Ted and Phil, they wondered what had happened to us and why we left East. Turned out that they caught 18 browns that evening including this 9 LB. 6 oz. hook that Ted released. He almost became a brownbagger in one day!
