Len Schultz was tied up at the dock on Chinook Island a few weeks ago when Kelly and I pulled in to use the outhouse. Len had expressed his displeasure with the fishing of late. As we got to talking, I made some suggestions on his downrigger set-up and soon we got around to booking a guide trip.

He and John Chambers met me at the dock around 6:30 this past Tues. for a day on LBC. It was supposed to be a little warmer than yesterday and that was something we all looked forward to. It was not to be. Soon, some clouds rolled in and you could feel the temps drop.

We couldn't get bit on any of my favorite runs and we moved around for a couple of hours. Finally right off a point half way back to the dam, I was explaining to Len and John about the lure bouncing off the rocks and how often strikes are triggered if a bull is around. Right then, as I was talking about it and we watched the rod, it went off after bouncing the bottom twice. John's bull was a beautiful, pre-spawn fish of 8 LB. The iridescent blue hue in her side shimmered in the sun. She was as pretty as these bull trout get!

It was Len's turn next and I decided to head over to the dam area to run one of my old haunts. Sure enough, it paid off with a nice male bull of over 9 LB.

It was tough sledding after that with only a couple of small bulls getting to the net for the rest of the day. I was sure glad that we stuck a couple of nice fish early. Look for more reports soon as I head back to LBC after Easter.
