Fishing
Report 4-20-06
I
got a call from my good buddy, Steve Kelly, after a day
out at Billy with a friend of ours. Seems that they did
really well with a total of 13 bulls and exquisite weather,
to boot. It was perfect conditions with little or no wind
and plenty of sun.
They
started at the run across from the island and got into a
few nice bulls before they left to make a run at a spot
that Steve recently renamed "Slim Shady." The
area was once called Crescent Bay by me, because it was
a long bay that was shaped in a crescent. But what made
it unique was the fact that the center of the bay was shaded
most of the day because of the direction of the sun as it
passes overhead and the high cliff to the west of the bay
that shades it most of the day. "Slim Shady" is
a good fit!
Right in the middle of the bay, on one of their runs, the
5" Lyman plug found the jaws of a killer 12 Lb. bull
and our buddy, John Lemke, instantly joined the "10
LB. bull club." Not as difficult as catching a 10 LB.
brown, but still a nice accomplishment.
Steve said that the herring bite was slowing and most of
the bigger bulls came on plugs, working the shorelines.
The bull trout action should be good right through May.
