Fishing Report 12/2/06
It has been a difficult fall with my Son-in-law battling cancer. Consequently, I haven't fished near as much as I usually do in the fall. I did get a chance to hook-up with one of my buddy's, Tom Staley and his son Samson, for a day on the water at LBC.
Tom and Ruth Ann adopted Samson this past year. He is 9 years old and came from an orphanage in Africa, originally. This was his first outing on a fishing trip in America.
I had got a report from another buddy, Steve Kelly, that the upper end of the Crooked River Arm had pumped out a few browns for him a week earlier. The main body had been blown out due to the recent rains and the upper section was clearing first. Steve had caught browns to 4 LB. on his trip.
It was fun to pass the rod off to Samson and watch his excitement about catching a fish on rod and reel. Something that was totally foreign to him.
My rod seemed to be the hot one and Samson got to land all the fish I hooked that morning. If my memory serves me correctly, that was a rainbow, a couple of browns and a kokanee. We didn't get into any big fish, but had fun seeing him play what we did hook up with. Tom got into the act with another kokanee and we spent the rest of the day looking for bigger schools of kokanee and bulls.
It was kind of odd that we didn't catch one bull trout on a lake that is famous for them. That probably had a lot to do with the fact that we were ripping shallow water for the browns and trolling with kokanee set-ups a lot of the day. All in all, it was fun to get our for a day, even if was only about 20 degrees when we first got out. My guess is the high was around 35 for the day.
I am hoping to get out a little more in Jan. before the show circuit starts.
Tight Lines and Happy Holidays to all,
Rick
