Fishing in December has been great for instance on the 11th Frasier brought in a 24 lb. rainbow, on the 10th Rick brought in a 21 lb. rainbow on the 9th Splitshot added to his over 20 count with a 21lb Rainbow. Other fish of note was Tim’s 17 lb. Dolly, and Dana landed a 17lb dolly as well. There have also been lots more but as I get older the memory fails a little until the write up gets posted then Oh yea now I remember. Most of the action has been on plugs and specifically the Billies. Rainbow trout, Black splat, purple gel, and the sour grape have been the hottest. The old standbys of Tennessee Shad and the Rainbow Trout with the white belly as well as the purple/ chrome, green/chrome could also be good this time of year. Speed for these is still in that 1.6 to 2 mph. water temp is running around 42-43 degrees.
Truus has been busy adding our bucktail flies to the store section of the web site, she has the names and descriptions put up and will add the pictures as she has time. These are Splitshot’s flies and we are planning to add Brownies (Kootenay fly co.)as well as some Frisky Jennies and Ultimate fly Polar Bear flies.
Just a reminder about our New Year’s Day derby. So every year on New Year’s Day we have a fun derby where all participants throw $20 into the pot and go fishing for the day. After dark the fish are officially measured at the Gill and Gift and the $$ handed out. We go by length for both Rainbows and Dollies and the longest fish in each category split the pot. Don’t forget to lay the fish on the measuring tape to get a accurate measurement. Last Year’s winners were Kerry Reed for the Dolly and myself Randy for the Rainbow. So drop in to register or give me a call 250-229-2113 or on channel 68 on the marine radio.
